Asenior student was caught beating up her junior student without mercy in a school named Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) at owerri in Imo State Nigeria. She tore the junior student uniform and grab her Bra as she constantly slap her, other students came to her rescue as they separated the senior student from the junior students, and the cause of this incident wasn’t unveiled. An Ex student of FGGC wrote on social media of a bad experience she encountered in that same boarding school which made her changed to other school. According to her, she said;
“they was a time I became very sick, I visited the school clinic twice, was given panadol to swallow and was sent back to the hostel. During the time of my illness , there was hunt for those who were rude to the out going S.S 3 girls, I heard the I was on their list and when I witnessed a mass beating one victim and saw how many senior students descended on her and how she fought back like a lion, In pain i ran to another hostel where I hid for two nights, sneaking out only when other had gone to classes to find food and freshen up and also at night to ease myself.
I was on a friend’s space and her bed was behind a door in block 1, I was covered with bed sheet so no one saw me. Assuming I was caught that period I wouldn’t have survived that beating because, I was ill and passed out on our stair case. The fear of this act pushed me to leave school without permission, a bus driver took me from Owerri to Aba and I told him to drop me off and seeing me rage with fever and tired he took to my house. My neighbor rushed me to general hospital and when I woke up I found my mum by my side and they got me discharged. My mum took me back to school the next day to show the school my condition and to let them know that wasn’t in support of me coming home without permission. The school authorities were not moved,they said I broke the rules and I must be punished that I should go and finish my treating then come back for my punishment. My mom begged and begged and it went to no avail, they didn’t care about my story of being threatened, they didn’t care that a child was beaten and was bleeding from the beating which scared me away, that their school clinic didn’t give adequate treatment, they passed their judgment and sent me away…
What was my offense that made my name appeared on the list of the out going SS3?, its because I refused to knee for no reason, I refused to be used as an errand girl because I was sent to school to learn. Yes, I went for some senior students and when I am tired I say NO.
Yes, my school didn’t support bullying, and will punish any one who is caught or reported but the stigma of being a rat who ratted a senior out is what makes students suffer in silence”.
