Festus Keyamo, spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, says the exact whereabouts of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, is not known to him.
“He (Tinubu) is not in the country at present”, Mr Keyamo, who appeared on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday said. When pressed about the whereabouts of his principal, he said, “I don’t have such information.”
His comment comes barely a few days that the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that Mr Tinubu was in the United Kingdom.
Last week, Mr Onanuga posted on his Facebook explaining that Mr Tinubu was taking a short break abroad and in readiness for what would “certainly be a grueling campaign” ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The continued absence of the APC candidate had been a trending topic on social media with many of his critics raising suspicion about his ill health.
Mr Tinubu had missed three key political events in the country among which was the signing of the peace accord by all the presidential candidates participating in the 2023 election.
His running-mate, Kashim Shettima represented had been standing in at such key events with Nigerians raising concerns over his suitability for the country’s top seat.
There have been insinuations that the APC presidential candidate was suffering from ‘urinary incontinence with video footage emerging from his camp, fuelling further questions about his fitness.
Amid speculations about his health status, Mr Tinubu, on Sunday, released a seven seconds video of himself riding on a stationary bicycle through his verified Twitter handle and shared workout footage for ‘proof of life’ to slam his critics.
In the message preceding the video, Mr Tinubu had said he was “healthy” and still in the presidential race.
He denied that he had withdrawn from the February 2023 presidential election.
“Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign.
“Well… Nope. This is the reality: I am strong, I am healthy and I am READY to serve Nigerians from Day One,” the APC candidate tweeted.
