The Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Ekpe Ogbu, has been kidnapped.

He was kidnapped along Otukpo-Ado Road in the Ado Local Government Area of the state around 4 pm on Sunday.

The adviser on security matters to Governor Samuel Ortom, Colonel Paul Hemba (retd), confirmed the abduction of the commissioner to Channels TV on Sunday night.

He said the van the commissioner was travelling in had been recovered by the police in Otukpo, and that rescue efforts had begun.

According to him, the kidnappers had yet to contact his family members.

However, according to a report by The PUNCH, Ogbu was kidnapped alongside three others – Honourable Agbo Ode, one of his in-laws and the driver of the vehicle.

The commissioner was said to have attended a church programme where Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial district, dedicated his newly inaugurated Campaign Council to God at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Otukpo.

Ogbu was reportedly going to his village in Ndekma in Utonkon District after the church programme when he and others were kidnapped. The PUNCH said the incident occurred around 8:45 pm on Sunday.
