Some schools across the United Kingdom have been compelled to close for a second straight day following a snow and ice emergency, Daily Mail has reported.
It was earlier reported that thousands of classrooms were reportedly closed Monday as an Arctic freeze engulfed Britain, and pupils were set to work remotely owing to the closure.
Hundreds of schools remained closed on Tuesday, with others opting for later start times to ensure the safety of students and staff as they arrive at school during the day.
According to reports, Braemer in Aberdeenshire recorded the coldest minimum temperature since February 2021 and the coldest maximum temperature in 12 years, with a low of minus 17 degrees Celsius and a high of minus 9.3 degrees Celsius.
The following five coldest temperatures were all recorded in Scotland, including minus 13.1 degrees Celsius at Balmoral.
Oli Claydon, a Met Office spokesman, confirmed that snow would fall in some areas again on Tuesday.
He said, “Coming into force at midnight tonight all the way through to lunchtime on Thursday, (there is a) large snow and ice warning covering the North-East of England, the whole sort of northern portion of Scotland, as well as the Highlands and Islands.”
