Business and social activities in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital and its environs have remained grounded after a recent 5-day sit-at-home order.
Simon Ekpa, the Finland-based self-proclaimed disciple of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, declared a 5-day sit-at-home from December 9 to 13, across Southeastern Nigeria.
While residents of Anambra State went about their normal business throughout the period, business and social activities in Ebonyi State, especially in the state capital have remained down.
It was observed that while there were little vehicular movements within the metropolis, many business outlets, motor parks, and filling stations were shut on Wednesday.
Residents said that there was no report of hoodlum attacks within the state capital. However, there was a reported attack in Ndufu-Alike Ikwo where about four persons were reportedly killed.
“Even though the 5-day sit-at-home ended yesterday (Tuesday), there is very little movement within Abakaliki but there is no shooting. However, many business and social activities have been down; things have not picked up yet,” one of the residents said.
