Barrister Abba Bello Haliru, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, has reportedly died.

The PDP Governorship Campaign Council Director-General, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu, confirmed his death on Friday, saying he died after a brief illness.

This is coming barely 49 days to the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

General elections will be held in Nigeria on 25 February 2023 to elect the President and Vice President and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

The late Abba was the first son of former PDP national chairman, Dr Bello Haliru.

He won the PDP ticket by defeating the incumbent House of Representatives member, Bello Relisco in the party’s primary last year.

A family source said he would be buried in Abuja, on Saturday.

In a similar incident, SaharaReporters had reported in November 2022 that tragedy struck the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State as its House of Representatives candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Mr Ejikeme Omeje, reportedly died in an auto-crash.

Omeje, a pharmacist and one of the top candidates of the party in Enugu North Senatorial Zone died in the accident which occurred along Eden Ani/Nsukka road, near El-Rina hotel Nsukka.

A chieftain of the party, who confirmed the unfortunate incident, said that the accident happened shortly after a political meeting at Edem-Ani in Nsukka.
