The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the 2023 Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu House of Representatives election inconclusive.
This decision was taken because the winning margin was not up to the cancelled votes in the federal lawmakers’ election polling units.
The returning officer, Adams Baba, declared the results inconclusive in Kabba on Sunday, claiming that the difference in results between the winner, Salman Idris of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kolawole Matthew was not equal to the number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units.
The ADC candidate scored 13,867 votes while the APC candidate received 13,655 votes, a difference of two hundred and sixty-two votes, while the number of PVC collected in the cancelled polling units of Iya in Otu ward in Kabba/Bunu LGA is 485.
The returning officer failed to mention when a rerun election will be conducted in the affected polling units.
