President Muhammadu Buhari will be in London for an additional week at the behest of his dentist, who has started attending to him.

When the president returns, it will be a few days before the swearing-in of President-elect Bola Tinubu. The incumbent president will hand over the rein of power on May 29.

Mr Buhari has been out of the country since May 3.

The president’s media aide Femi Adesina announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

”The specialist requires to see the president in another five days for a procedure already commenced,” the statement explained.

Mr Buhari joined other world leaders to attend the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday.

This medical appointment is the latest in his foreign medical itineraries since Mr Buhari was first inaugurated president in 2015.

In 2016, Mr Buhari went on a six-day medical vacation to London and then a 10-day medical vacation for a “persistent ear infection.” In 2017, he went on a medical vacation in London, where he wrote to the national assembly, asking the legislators to extend his leave.

In May 2017, He went on another trip to London and returned after 104 days.

In 2018, he travelled again to London for another “medical review,” and in 2019, he went on a 10-day private visit to London. He was also away in the UK for a “routine medical check-up” in 2021.
