The United States of America government has confirmed the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of a private military group, Wagner.
This was made known by the US National Security Council Spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, who said the White House had seen the reports of Prigozhin’s death and described it as “no surprise.”
“If confirmed, no one should be surprised. The disastrous war in Ukraine led to a private army marching on Moscow, and now – it would seem — to this,” Watson said in a statement.
Prigozhin, who led a failed mutiny against Russian President Vladimir Putin two months ago, was said to be on board a private jet that crashed Wednesday.
According to Russia’s state-owned Tass news agency, the private jet crashed in a location north of Moscow.
It was also reported in July how Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of a private military group, Wagner was ignoring the orders from Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to move to Belarus.
Recall that Wagner mercenaries left Ukraine to seize a military headquarters in a southern Russian city and rolled troops for hundreds of miles toward Moscow where they captured the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and sent tanks to the capital, but after less than 24 hours they turned around.
