A First-Year female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State, has been killed by a stray bullet from suspected cultists.
The deceased female student identified as Uche Joevita Chigozirim, a student of the faculty of health sciences, was killed in the Miracle Junction area of Awka, the state capital on Thursday evening.
A witness and resident of the area, Dickson Anayochi, who confirmed the incident said, “This girl, a 100 level student of the faculty of Health Science was killed yesterday (Thursday) evening by stray bullet shot by suspected cultists at the popular Miracle Junction. Her name is Uche Joevita Chigozirim.
“Please help us and let the world know the insecurity challenges we are facing in the UNIZIK environment and the state government is not doing anything to improve the situation.
“Please let the Inspector General of Police hear this and help us with a checkpoint around the Ifite area of UNIZIK because we are tired of complaining to the state government. It’s now a culture. We are almost used to it. It is really sad”.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the police failed as the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, after reading a WhatsApp message sent to him, has not responded to the message at the time of filing this report.
