The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has clarified the incident earlier reported as an assassination attempt on him, which was widely circulated on social media.
He explained that it was a minor disagreement between the security details attached to him and some military personnel providing security on the road.
In an interview given to the press at his residence in Abuja, Governor Bello emphasised that there was no attempt on his life.
He clarified that a minor altercation occurred between members of the Nigerian Police Force attached to his convoy and a military unit responsible for highway security, as both units were performing their lawful security duties.
The Governor commended the security agencies for their collaborative efforts in improving the security of lives and property in Kogi State.
He also urged the high command of the involved agencies to investigate any overzealousness or unprofessional conduct by their personnel during the incident and apply necessary sanctions.
Governor Bello called on the citizens of Kogi State to disregard any attempts by political opportunists to exploit the incident and create instability as the state’s 2023 gubernatorial elections, scheduled for November 11, draw nearer.
He assured the state of his safety and the adequacy of security measures to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.
