A civic group, the Imo State Liberation Movement has stated that the state is heading for chaos if it is not rescued from the Governor Hope Uzodinma’s style of leadership which has heightened insecurity.
The group in a statement jointly signed by Emma Ndunuziem, President and Kelechi Opurum, Secretary, noted that the coming election was between the masses and the political elites.
They explained that their businesses in some parts of the state like Orlu, Orsu, Okigwe, Oru West, Onu Imo and Ehime Mbano had collapsed since 2021, adding that they waited to see if the present government could save them, but things seemed to be getting worse.
The group said, “Today, we have come to tell the world that our state is heading towards collapse if nothing is quickly done to liberate it from bad leadership. We have been watching our people both young and old dying almost on daily bases as a result of insecurity.
“Many of our members were married to security men and women, today, some of them are widows and widowers. Our businesses in some parts of the state like Orlu, Orsu, Okigwe, Oru West, Onu Imo and Ehime Mbano have collapsed since 2021.
“We have waited to see if the present government could save us from extinction. But regrettably, things seem to be getting worse. Having suffered untold hardship for years now, we feel that all of us may die if we continue to keep quiet. We therefore have invited every one of you today to inform you that the present leadership has failed us.
“We have registered it as a bad government and decided to move against it in the November 11 Election. Our campaign against it shall start immediately after this inauguration. We are going to mobilise all over 15,000 members to say no to second term for APC in our dear state. We shall activate actions with the real grassroots votes to fight for our children’s future and lives. We want to beat our chest and tell our children that we tried.
“Our greatest regret is that the political elites in the state have sold out trying to kill the future of our children because of their selfish interest. Our movement is going to declare voting war against them. It is going to be the masses against the political elites. We discovered that they have been given contracts and cash gift by the present government to support them. We the masses will rest them this time around by telling them that real power belongs to us and we shall demonstrate that on the Election Day. Henceforth, we advise as follows:
“No grassroots voter should trust the so-called leaders any more. Collect money if they give you and vote against them. Campaign of building roads cannot be measured with life of any human being.
“Roads can only make meaning if we are alive to use it. We must stop the killing by voting against this government. Because next term will be worse as we see only deceit. Let stop killing of young men and women in the police and military because one person wants to be in power at all cost.
“We must resist political thieves parading as leaders by saying no to them. It is obvious that things will not improve because too many leaders supporting APC now may drain State Treasury if they go back for second term.
“It is important to state here that we only know for now who to vote against. But will in the next coming days chose among other candidates who to support because we don’t belong to any political party. We only fight for a better Imo. May God bless us all and save our state from collapse.”
