The convicts: Rasheed Ojonla, Kazeem Agbabiaka, Babatunde Oluajo, and Oyebanji Oyeniyi were convicted and sentenced by Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel to five years imprisonment for conspiracy and advance-free fraud.
The Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State Capital has sentenced five individuals to prison for allegedly defrauding a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, of N38 million.
The convicts: Rasheed Ojonla, Kazeem Agbabiaka, Babatunde Oluajo, and Oyebanji Oyeniyi were convicted and sentenced by Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel to five years imprisonment for conspiracy and advance-free fraud.
The court also sentenced Femi Oseni to five years imprisonment for cyberstalking.
A clip, which went viral in 2018, showed Owoeye, who was representing Ilesa East, the constituency of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, being queried by some persons over what he was looking for in the dead of the night.
The lawmaker was seen trying to cover his private parts with his left hand, as he pleaded with the men, whose faces were not covered in the video.
SaharaReporters reported that some politicians in the state had claimed that the lawmaker was asked to bathe at the market square with blood in order to make the APC win the governorship election.
They had also said the ritual he was performing before he was caught by the men was for him to remain relevant in the new political dispensation.
Sources close to the lawmaker, however, said Owoeye was kidnapped and taken to where he was stripped naked and recorded, adding that his alleged abductors threatened to kill him.
The convicts who used the video to obtain N38millon from the speaker before disseminating it on social media were arrested by the police.
