The Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu has been accused of violating the provisions of the Federal Character Commission Act, in the constitution of the top management officials of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil in Kano State.

Whereas POLAC as a federal government parastatal should strike a balance in its management team with the appointment of its top officials from across the country to reflect equal representation, a document sighted by SaharaReporters has revealed that the Provost and deans of faculties of the academy are from four Northern states.

According to a complaint letter addressed to the Chairman of the Selection Board, Regular Course Ten (10) of the academy by one Dr. Godday Osa Igbaekemen in the Department of Sociology, while the Provost of POLAC is from Jigawa State, the Deans of Faculties of Law, Science and Humanities are from Kano State.

He said the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Science who is from Nasarawa State is said to have married someone from Kano State and there “a son-in-law in Kano State”.

Also, the Chairman of the Admissions Committee and the Chairman of the Screening Committee are said to be from Kano State.

“Sir, I write to draw your attention to the urgent need to address the basic issue of skewed representation of academic staff in the selection Board of Regular Course 10.

“However, this write-up become necessary in view of the fact that these POLAC Academic Staff are from one ethnic Nationality and same Geo-political Zone of the Country.

“It is obvious that the rest of us from other parts of Nigeria are spectators to the admission process and this breed’s unequal representation of cadets across the 36 States and FCT.

“It may interest you also to know that regular course 8 and 9 admission are completely in violation of federal character principle – please, kindly demand for the lists of cadets and strike a balance with regular course 10 exercise,” the letter dated November 7, 2023 read.
