The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who made this known in a statement on Sunday said that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday at his base in Afuze following credible intelligence.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that its operatives arrested a 45-year-old physically challenged suspected drug dealer, Godwin Emuneyin, saying the disabled uses his wheelchair as a cover to sell illicit drugs including methamphetamine and skunk in Afuze, headquarters of Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who made this known in a statement on Sunday said that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday at his base in Afuze following credible intelligence.
Babafemi said that as of the time of his arrest, a wooden box used to conceal illicit drugs including 18 pinches of methamphetamine, one block and 71 wraps of skunk, was recovered from him.
Also, Babafemi stated that operatives of NDLEA in another operations in Edo State on Monday recovered 42 bags of skunk weighing 480kgs from a camp in Aviosi forest in Owan West Local Government Area, while the Utese forest in Ovia North East Local Government Area was also raided same day with 231.5kgs of the substance recovered and a cannabis farm measuring 0.778960 hectare destroyed.
In Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Ngurore-Yola road on Thursday intercepted a Toyota Corolla car marked TZG 97 KY loaded with 30,899 Tramadol 225mg and 100mg pills concealed inside the body compartments of the car.
Babafemi said that the 25-year-old driver found in possession of the drug exhibits, Sani Samaila, known as Isa Male, said he was taking the consignment from Jalingo, Taraba State capital to deliver in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA spokesperson said that on Wednesday, a suspect, Abdullahi Sani, known as Danfulani, was arrested at Ngurore town of Taraba state in possession of some quantity of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa in a white nylon.
He said that the suspect thereafter led operatives of the anti-narcotic agency on a follow up operation to the home of a drug lord, Alhaji Bubakari, known as Dan Mamuda, “an unrepentant ex-convict, where 19 blocks of compressed cannabis that weighed 13kgs were recovered.”
Similarly, in Ogun state, not less than 18.875 tons of cannabis sativa on 7.55 hectares farmland were destroyed and another 100 jumbo bags weighing 1,100 kilograms of the psychoactive substance recovered at James Town, Ogunmakin area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area on Monday, by a combined team of NDLEA operatives with soldiers, police officers, officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Defence Intelligence Agency and the State Security Network, Amotekun.
Babafemi said that during the operation, one Okpor Chukwuma and six other male suspects found on the farmland were arrested.
Also, on Friday, a 25-year-old commercial bus driver, Olayinka Sowo, was arrested along Ibadan-Akure expressway over alleged conspiracy to transport 45.150kgs cannabis from Lagos to Osun state.
In a similar development, NDLEA officers in Abuja on Friday intercepted 7,980 pills of diazepam and 567 bottles of codeine syrup in a commercial bus along Abaji-Abuja highway after which a follow up operation at Zuba motor park led to the arrest of a 30-year-old Ugwu Ikenna, who owns the consignment.
In Delta state, NDLEA operatives backed by soldiers stormed a remote forest in Umuchime community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state where they destroyed 12.5 tons of cannabis on five hectares of farmland and recovered 53.22kgs processed weeds and seeds of the substance.
Also, a suspect identified as Christopher Anim, known as Ogidi, was arrested in the course of the operation, while two suspects identified as Amarachukwu Eugene and Abdulaziz Auwal, were arrested in another operation by operatives of the agency in Kano with 202 blocks of skunk weighing 113.1kgs on Tuesday.
Babafemi stated that while commending the officers and men of the Edo, Ogun, Osun, Adamawa, Delta, and FCT Commands of the agency for their balanced efforts in the past week, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), applauded their counterparts across the country for intensifying their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy.
