A source in the community confirmed this on Wednesday morning, sharing the photograph of the suspect, adding that the suspect was among the gunmen who caused a recent unrest at the students hostels of the Federal University of Lafia.
Residents and local vigilantes in Gandu community which is around the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday night arrested one of the suspected terrorists attacking the community.
A source in the community confirmed this on Wednesday morning, sharing the photograph of the suspect, adding that the suspect was among the gunmen who caused a recent unrest at the students hostels of the Federal University of Lafia.
“The suspect was arrested when he came to the community and tried to steal last night (Tuesday night). Not known to him that we (the residents) had been on alert for them since the time of the last attack,” one of the residents revealed.
The source from the community also revealed further that the arrested suspect was later handled to the security operatives for further investigation.
But all efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Rahman Nansel were not successful as of press time. His phone rang repeatedly but he did not pick up.
Last Monday, it was reported how a group of terrorists attacked the community, kidnapped and injured some residents.
It had been reported that the attackers killed a mechanic and kidnapped his wife and daughters during the invasion.
Those who sustained injuries were rushed to a nearby facility for immediate medical attention.
In a video made available online, one of the victims of the attack was seen lying on a bed at the hospital subconsciously and it was yet to be ascertained if he was a student or an indigene of the community.
This came barely three weeks after one person died in the community due to a terrorist attack according to a statement released by the State Governor’s spokesman, Emmanuel Innocent Akwe.
These persistent attacks made the students and others living in the community to be living in fear.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Rahman Nansel also confirmed the incident. He said one person was killed by the kidnappers, adding that the kidnappers abducted the wife of the deceased.
“Our personnel in the command went back with a re-enforcement team to save the entire Gandu community, but before they could reach the house of the deceased, his wife was taken to a yet-to-be-identified destination. Our personnel combed the entire area but all efforts to rescue the woman proved abortive,” he added.
