Four people have been invited for questioning by the Nigerian police in connection with the trending videos of the armed robbery attack on some commercial banks in the Ikere area of Ekiti State.
Gistcore on Wednesday reported that armed robbers attacked some commercial banks in the town.
According to videos seen online, the sound of gunshots boomed in the town as residents and passersby scampered to safety.
Social and business activities in the town were paralysed for several hours as human and vehicular movements stopped while the robbery was going on.
It was reported that the robbers used dynamite to blow open the entrance of the banks and cart away unspecified amounts of money.
However, sources living in the area SaharaReporters told on Saturday that at least four people had been arrested by the police in connection with the trending videos of the robbery.
The sources asserted that the people were arrested on Friday at a plaza close to Ikere Town Hall.
“Police came to the plaza where the videos were made and arrested four people in connection with the trending videos.
“One of the persons was released on bail and the police are asking for the sum of N400,000 to release the others,” one of the sources said.
However, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Sunday Abutu, told SaharaReporters that the four persons were not arrested but invited to aid their investigation.
“Four guys were invited yesterday (Friday) over the trending videos of the Ikere robbery on social media. Three were let go after they cleared themselves that they were not the ones who recorded the video.
“No money was collected from them; in fact, the officers in charge gave them transport fare to their various homes, after the release.
“We were able to identify who recorded the video, he is not a suspect but to help us with our investigation. He has explained what he knows and he might be going home today.
“From the video, we heard a voice note saying that this one is from Ikere. So the video is more of an assistance to us. They were not arrested but invited and nobody can collect money from them for bail,” he added.
