The 24 Rivers State House of Assembly members have withdrawn their impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This decision was taken following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu on the ongoing political crisis in the state at their resumed sitting at the assembly quarters in Port Harcourt.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Tinubu had intervened in the crisis as the factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, was mandated to recognise 27 members of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) penultimate Monday.

Gistcore had obtained the eight points resolution from the close-door meeting with President Tinubu, which also had Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, a former governor of the state, Peter Odili, Minister of the Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and other stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall that the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings on the 30th of October 2023, less than 24 hours after the house assembly complex was attacked and 6 weeks before defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

Similarly, it was earlier reported on Wednesday that a five-member faction of the State House of Assembly headed by Edison Ehie and loyal to Governor Fubara had passed the 2024 budget proposal submitted by the governor.

The State Executive Council, on Monday, approved the estimated budget of over N800 billion, tagged by the governor as the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity’ for the 2024 fiscal year.

The faction on Wednesday moved the house plenary session to the Government House, Port Harcourt.

This came amid the ongoing demolition of the assembly complex by Governor Fubara’s administration.
