An investigative journalist from Nigeria recently disclosed that he invested approximately N600,000 to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from an institution in Benin Republic within a span of two months.
Umar Audu, a reporter for a Nigerian newspaper, exposed a counterfeit certificate operation at Ecole Supérieure de Gestion et de Technologies (ESGT) in Cotonou.
Expressing astonishment at how the forged certificate managed to elude Nigerian authorities, Audu revealed during an interview with Channels Television that his expenditure included N150,000 for assistance from an immigration officer who facilitated the acquisition of an ECOWAS passport and a retroactive stamp from both Nigerian Immigration and Benin.
In response to this revelation, the Federal Government took action on Tuesday by suspending the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from the Republic of Benin and Togo.
Moreover, the Nigerian government imposed a ban on 18 foreign universities.
