Pope Francis has decried the insecurity in Nigeria, describing the increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria as extremely concerning.

He expressed optimism that efforts will be made to contain the spread of insecurity in the country.
Pope Francis wrote: “The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning.
“I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible.”
Media reports that insecurity has virtually brought Nigeria to its knees as citizens cannot freely move around or travel on the highways anytime they want.
For instance, on February 12, GUO Transport Company confirmed the attack and killing of one of the drivers of its bus taking passengers from Lagos to Abuja by gunmen.
According to the transport firm, the incident occurred along the Ikare-Akoko Road in Ondo State.
Media reported on January 5, 2024, that some gunmen hijacked God Is Good Motors and ABC transport buses heading to Abuja from Kogi State, and kidnapped the passengers.
Media could not ascertain the number of passengers kidnapped.
The Kogi State Police Command through its spokesperson, SP William Ovye, confirmed the incident and later said the affected passengers had been released.
He said, “I have just been informed by the DPO that all the kidnapped victims of God Is Good Motors, and ABC have regained their freedom.”
