Controversial Primary: We Are Waiting For Edo Deputy Governor, Shaibu In Court — PDP

This was stated by the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, adding that the party was not deterred by the deputy governor’s threat to seek redress in court to declare him the authentic PDP candidate ahead of the state’s governorship election in September.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said its legal team is waiting for the the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu in court over the party’s primary election dispute in the state.

This was stated by the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, adding that the party was not deterred by the deputy governor’s threat to seek redress in court to declare him the authentic PDP candidate ahead of the state’s governorship election in September.

Abdullahi said the PDP was not worried about the threat of the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu and his continual campaign on the social media.

Last week, Shaibu invaded the party’s national offices, demanding recognition as the party’s legitimate governorship candidate.

The deputy governor also expressed concern that he was under threat of impeachment for persisting on doing the right thing in Edo State’s PDP.

Recall that Shaibu and Ighodalo emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidates in Edo State following simultaneous primaries held on February 22, 2023.

However, the PDP insisted that Ighodalo remains the party’s only candidate and gave him the certificate of return.

“We are not worried. We wish the deputy governor well on his journey to the court. We are waiting for him. We cannot continue to run this party like this. Is he the only one who contested the primary? Why is he going on like this?,” Abdullahi  was quoted by Daily Trust.

He continued: “There were ten of them that bought the form; the rest have accepted the reconciliation move of the party. Have you heard any of them say they were coming to the party to ask for a certificate of return? This is a recipe for a crisis. We cannot waste our time if someone is not ready for reconciliation. We have a legal department.”
