GWR: Tunde Onakoya clocks 18 hours, remains undefeated in chess marathon
Popular chess master Tunde Onakoya has clocked in 18 hours and remained undefeated as he aims to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, which spans an impressive 58 hours.
The event kicked off on Wednesday, April 17, and is set to conclude on April 19, drawing attention from chess enthusiasts and spectators alike.
A post on his X handle on Thursday, April 18, reads: “Thank you #nytimes.A Nigerian Chess Master in Times Square.”
Providing insights into the challenge, Onakoya’s manager, known as Taiwo with the X handle “OgaBoxx,” revealed rigorous nature of the marathon.
He wrote, “Outside the rest breaks, there can’t be any substantial pauses to prolong the marathon. It’s not how many people, it’s how many hours. #LongestChessMarathon #GWR.”
