Bandits’ kingpin, Bello Turji, has denied claims by Nigerien authorities that one of his top commanders, Kachalla Baleri, had been arrested.
In a newly surfaced video, Turji directly addressed the purported arrest of Baleri by Niger Republic troops during Operation Faraoutar Bushiya on May 28.
The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama on Thursday.
The video features the duo, flanked by their followers, with rifles slung over their shoulders. Turji boasts, “They said they caught and killed Baleri… here he is!”
Baleri adds, “Only God can bring an end to my life.”
The bandit kingpin accused the governments of Niger Republic and Nigeria of capturing and killing innocent citizens.
He described the claims as “shameful information.”
He also demanded the release of innocent people detained as bandits, stating that they are merely herders and farmers.
“You claimed you killed Baleri or captured him. This is Baleri. Here is he if you want to apprehend him,” he said.
