Media learnt that the politician, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was reportedly attacked by the gunmen while driving along Neke Odenigbo, a community in the Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.
A group of unknown gunmen on Friday night killed Ejike Ugwueze, an aspirant for the position of local government Chairman in Enugu State.
Media learnt that the politician, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was reportedly attacked by the gunmen while driving along Neke Odenigbo, a community in the Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.
Multiple videos seen on X confirmed the incident. The deceased was seen inside his car lifeless.
“One Hon. Ejike Ugwueze from Ikem yesterday evening along Ikem_Road assassinated,” a user captioned the video.
The police authorities have also confirmed the incident and mentioned that investigation had commenced fully on the matter.
Enugu has recently been notorious for politically motivated killings.
Media had reported how the governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the 2023 general elections in Enugu State, Chief Dons Udeh was killed by gunmen.
Media had gathered that Udeh, a former State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was abducted by unknown gunmen before his death.
According to sources, Udeh’s dead body was found at the 9th-mile area of Enugu State.
Although details of abduction and recovery of his remains were not made available to the public, one of the sources said that his vehicle was recovered by the family.
