The Federal High Court sitting in Kano State has threatened to jail Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson to Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf and other aides.
The warning was given by the sitting judge in the ongoing legal tussle on Kano Emirship, Justice Simon Amobeda.
Speaking shortly after delivering his decision on the case of Governor Yusuf’s Kano State Commission of Inquiry, the judge ordered that a Certified True Copy (CTC) of his decision be served to the governor’s spokesperson and any media representative present in the courtroom to avoid misrepresentation.
Journalists present during the court proceedings were left in suspense as the judge threatened to imprison the governor’s spokesperson.
He expressed dissatisfaction over some comments of the state government’s officials including Bature, who he said always undermined court judgment.
“I know the Governor has immunity, but I have the liberty to jail any of his aides for unguarded utterances against the decision of the court,” Justice Amobeda said.
Kano has been on the spotlight of the media in Nigeria since the assumption of Governor Abba Yusuf on 29th May, 2023 as a result of running legal battle around political crisis between former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and Governor Yusuf.
Efforts to get the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, for his reaction proved abortive as he could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
