Chukwuemeka Philomina Ekpereamaka, a first-year student in the Department of Education English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has been reported missing after an abduction incident.
The incident occurred on Sunday, around midday at the Balewa Hostel within the university campus.
Ekpereamaka had informed her hostel mates that she was going downstairs to meet her boyfriend, but she did not return.
In the early hours of Monday, July 15, 2024, the abductors established contact with Ekpereamaka’s roommate, Chioma Ogbonna, demanding a ransom of N5.5 million for her safe release.
The university management was swift to acknowledge the situation, with assurances that an official statement would be issued by the end of Tuesday.
Despite initial reports, a university official, speaking anonymously, refuted claims that the abduction occurred within the campus premises. He indicated that Ekpereamaka might have been taken after leaving the university with her boyfriend.
