President Tinubu presided over the first Council of State meeting of his administration. Those in attendance included former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, with former military rulers Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar participating virtually.
On Tuesday, the Special Adviser Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga in a post on his X account said, “National Council of State passes a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cabinet, after listening to presentations by six ministers and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu.”
The Council, which advises the President on major policy decisions, also comprises the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving and retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, and state governors.
Following the meeting, Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq addressed State House correspondents, announcing that the council had unanimously endorsed President Tinubu’s leadership, expressing satisfaction with his governance of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Council reportedly claimed that the recent #EndBadGovernance protests were nothing short of an insurrection and a movement that targeted regime change.
Gistcore had earlier reported that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, shunned the meeting, and there was no reason given for their absence.
Abdulrazaq, who briefed the journalists at the State House after the Council, said the council was pleased with President Tinubu for the way he has governed the country, after listening to all the presentations made by ministers on the progress of the economy.
