The Military Public Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major Stephen Nantip Zhakom, who made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested in the Joint Operation Area following an intelligence-driven operation carried out in the state.
The Nigerian Army has said that its troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven have arrested five notorious gunrunners in Plateau state and recovered several arms and ammunition including NATO ammunition.
The Military Public Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major Stephen Nantip Zhakom, who made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested in the Joint Operation Area following an intelligence-driven operation carried out in the state.
According to Zhakom, the operation commenced from midnight of Monday to the early hours of Tuesday when the troops raided the hideout of a gunrunner identified as Mohammed Sani at Naraguta Mining Area in Bayameni, along Bauchi Road in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
Zhakom said during the raid, the suspected gunrunner and four others were arrested, and weapons including two AK-47 rifles and one fabrique Nationale automatic rifle were recovered.
According to him, also recovered were 14 AK-47 magazines, one fabrique Nationale magazine, 5,316 rounds of 7.62 MM (Special), 98 rounds of 7.62 MM (NATO), and 43 rounds of 9 MM.
“The suspects are undergoing interrogation for useful intelligence to aid in arresting other members of the syndicate as well as decimating the gunrunning supply chain,” Zhakom said.
