About 200 Pupils In Delta State Primary School Sit On Bare Floors, Lack Adequate Facilities

Media had recently reported several schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, uncovered by the civic organisation lacking basic and adequate facilities.

Inadequate facilities at the Ughievwen Primary School in Otor-Ughievwen, Delta State, have led over 197 pupils to “sit on the bare floor during class.”

Monitng, a civic technology platform dedicated to enhancing transparency and accountability in public projects, reports that the oil-producing community is facing significant infrastructural challenges, prompting residents to urge Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to take immediate action.

The poor learning environment is severely impacting the students’ educational experience.

Monitng stated, “We urge the Delta State Government to kindly intervene,” emphasising that the current conditions “have created an environment that is not only hindering the learning process but also poses a substantial threat to the well-being and safety of the students.”

Also, in a related development, days ago, media had reported that the Delta State retired local government workers and retired public primary school teachers cried out to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come to their aid over what they described as “fraudulent” N8million allegedly deducted from the gratuity of each pensioner.

The group had accused the Delta State Chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the State Auditor General (Local Government) and a consulting firm (Logic Forensic Consultant) of conspiring to fraudulently deduct from each retiree between N2million and N8 million of their gratuities and, called on governor Oborevwori to intervene and redress the matter.
