Following his victory at the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will officially present certificates of return to Ondo State Governor-elect Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy on Wednesday.
The certificates will be issued at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, also confirmed this development.
He was quoted by PUNCH as saying, “The certificates of return will be presented by the commission to the governor-elect and his deputy on Wednesday.”
Lucky Aiyedatiwa who is also the sitting governor of the state, was declared winner after he secured a total of 366,781 votes, defeating the PDP’s Agboola Ajayi, who garnered 117,845 votes.
The election has been described as the worst conducted by INEC according to PDP, although the APC has dismissed such claims.
The media had reported that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Bamidele Akingboye, rejected the outcome of the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
Speaking at a press conference in Akure on Monday, the SDP Chairman in the state, Gbenga Akinbuli, had described the election as “a slap on democracy,” alleging widespread irregularities, including thuggery and vote buying.
According to Akinbuli, “How come the SDP got zero votes in Ilaje? The thugs chased everybody out of the polling unit. People were scared of coming out to cast their votes.”
