A concerned woman from northern Nigeria has passionately called on governors in the region to redirect their focus from constructing flyovers and bridges to addressing critical development needs such as education, industrialization, and agriculture.
In a viral video seen by Gistcore media, the woman criticised the lack of meaningful investment in sustainable infrastructure and industries across the region, lamenting that “most industries in the North have packed out,” yet no significant efforts are being made to revive them
She expressed embarrassment over the state of education in the North, stressing that many children cannot speak good English due to poorly equipped schools and limited access to quality learning facilities.
She said it is shameful that while most of their children lack access to good education, Northern governors are busy bragging about the number of flyovers in their states.
“Kano people claim to have the highest number of flyovers, and now Adamawa has joined. But what are these bridges achieving for our future?” she asked.
The woman challenged the governors to emulate Alex Otti, Abia State governor, who has prioritised projects like solar plants and alternative power solutions.
She argued that diversifying energy sources and creating jobs through industries would uplift the region’s economy and reduce its dependence on federal allocations.
“Northern leaders should invest in meaningful projects that will provide lasting benefits,” she urged, advocating for policies that enhance farming practices, develop local industries, and improve access to power.
She said, “We do not need more bridges again, we are tired of all these bridges.
“You see bridges and flyovers everywhere. Everyone is building flyovers and bridges, that is not a sign of development.
“Please, build real infrastructure. Build factories. It feels as if there’s a curse preventing us from owning factories in the North.
“We used to have gum factories in Zamfara. We used to have several industries across the North. Now, they are all closed. Instead of fixing this, all we see are more bridges being built.”
“Is it forbidden for state governments to own groundnut processing plants? For example, facilities where people can bring their groundnuts and process them, but rather local people come with peanut of oil. Did anyone curse us?” she asked.
She noted, “It is embarrassing that we lack good schools, and our children cannot even speak proper English. Yet, our focus remains on building flyovers and bragging about the number of bridges. Kano will say we have the highest number of flyovers and Adamawa has joined too, they did not curse Northern Nigeria, please.
“Why can’t we emulate others and invest in meaningful projects? Alex Otti has shown an example. You can build solar plants and alternative power supply system aside from PHCN (public power system).
“You can establish tractor rental facilities where farmers can borrow tractors for agricultural purposes. You can build quality schools. You can engage in public-private partnerships with well-meaning northerners who are willing to invest in the region’s development.”
“Please, leave these bridges and flyovers alone and focus on what truly matters for the growth and prosperity of Northern Nigeria,” she added.
