The incident was attributed to recklessness by the driver of the articulated truck conveying the twin 20-foot containers.
Three people have been confirmed dead while five others are still trapped and one still missing and one rescued alive in a Lagos State road accident involving two 20-foot containers.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, who made this known in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said that the accident occurred at 1:55pm at 174 Battalion, PZ Junction, Odogunyan in the Ikorodu area of the state.
Okunbor said, “Upon arrival, LASEMA’s Lion Response Team discovered that an articulated truck, registration number unknown, conveying twin 20-foot containers laden to capacity, lost control on motion, veered off the main road, and rammed into a parked containerised truck, registration number unknown, which inturn crashed into some roadside shops at the above-mentioned location.
“The incident was attributed to recklessness by the driver of the articulated truck conveying the twin 20-foot containers.
“Five adult males reportedly trapped under the parked truck that was rammed into the roadside shops. One adult male rescued (alive). Three adult males recovered (dead). One adult male still allegedly missing, and yet to be ascertained.”
He said the LASEMA response team co-ordinated the Search and Rescue Operation at the incident scene, and that team activated necessary Safety Measures and cordoned-off the incident scene.
He added that the response team has activated all necessary equipment for the Search and Rescue Operation as well as the Recovery Operation.
“LASEMA Lion Response Team – Agbowa in collaboration with other responders at the incident scene are managing the situation. Agency’s heavy-duty equipment – Super Metro deployed and in operation while awaiting other equipment to rescue/recover the alleged last victim. Search and Rescue Operation still ongoing.”
