Despite the recent price reduction announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, filling stations in the South-East and Northern regions of the country are still selling fuel above N1000 per liter, SaharaReporters has gathered.
The NNPCL had earlier announced that it reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N1020 to N899 per litre.
However, it appears that many filling stations in the South-East and Northern regions have refused to comply with the new price regime.
A survey done by SaharaReporters on Monday showed that fuel is being sold between N1020 to N1060 in Kwara.
In Minna, Niger State capital, NNPC is selling at N1000 while other filling stations sell between N1050 and N1100.
In Kano State, NNPC stations sell at N990 while other stations sell between N1030 to N1080.
In some communities in Abuja, fuel is being sold for N1050 but NNPC is selling for N965.
The situation is quite similar in the Southeast region. In Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the price is over N1,000. The price is pegged at N1020 at most stations in Anambra.
Efforts to reach NNPC spokesperson, Femi Shoneye for comments did not succeed.
He declined repeated calls made on Monday to seek his comment on the findings.Â
