Speaking on Thursday during a Christmas luncheon with troops of “Operation Fansan Yamma” in Sokoto, Gen. Musa stated that Nigeria would also not host any foreign military bases on its soil.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to maintaining regional peace and security, vowed that Nigerian borders will not be used as a launchpad for attacks on neighboring nations.
Speaking on Thursday during a Christmas luncheon with troops of “Operation Fansan Yamma” in Sokoto, Gen. Musa stated that Nigeria would also not host any foreign military bases on its soil.
Musa urged Nigerians to see national security as a collective responsibility, not one that rests solely on the military. He cautioned against those who exploit religious or ethnic sentiments to mislead communities.
“Many come pretending to be allies but later reveal their true motives. This was the case with the Lakurawa, who initially seemed friendly but have become a significant threat,” he explained.
“We have the capacity and capability to handle our security challenges,” the defence chief said. “What we can do is collaborate with other nations through training—sending our personnel abroad for training and welcoming theirs as well.”
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Gen. Musa assured neighboring countries, including Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Benin, and Togo, of Nigeria’s steadfast commitment to mutual security and collaboration.
“Any criminal element using Nigerian soil to attack our neighbors is an enemy of Nigeria, and we will take decisive action to address such threats,” said Mr. Musa.
He said the nation’s solidarity with its neighbors and vowed to neutralize any threats to regional security.
The Chief of Defense Staff reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and warned communities against harboring such individuals.
“Any community harboring these criminals must either drive them out or prepare to face the consequences of our operations. We respect human rights but will act firmly against those aiding threats to national security,” he warned.
Musa also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Armed Forces and thanked Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu and the people of the state for their continued backing of military efforts in the region.
“We reaffirm our loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our dedication to defending our fatherland,” he declared.
He commended the troops for their bravery, resilience, and professionalism, urging them to stay vigilant and focused.
“You exemplify the finest traditions of the Armed Forces. Stay united and continue to make us proud,” he encouraged.
Earlier, Maj. Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Sokoto, described the event as a time to celebrate Christmas while reflecting on the troops’ sacrifices, achievements, and commitment to their mission.
