Police Rescue Pregnant Woman Detained By Anambra Vigilantes On Husband’s Orders

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday, said the pregnant woman whose identity was not revealed, was detained by the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) on the orders of her husband who accused her of stealing.

The Anambra State Police Command says its operatives have rescued a pregnant woman who was detained in a security office in the Okija area of the state for allegedly stealing undisclosed items.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday, said the pregnant woman whose identity was not revealed, was detained by the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) on the orders of her husband who accused her of stealing.

The police spokesperson said the state police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered the rescue operation and an investigation into the incident after being seen in a video.

Ikenga added, “CP Itam frowned on the act of detaining and inhuman treatment of suspects by some members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in the State

“He assured that the root cause of the incidents would be addressed to avert future occurrence.

“He also initiated necessary moves with relevant authorities to checkmate the excesses of the few unprofessional AVG members in the state.”
