Nigerian inmates in the facility previously narrated how the deceased was allegedly left untreated despite his ailment.
Another Nigerian inmate at the Kaliti prison, a maximum-security prison in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Basil Ilobi Lawrence, is dead.
Lawrence, who hailed from Delta State, was one of about 300 inmates of Nigerian descent at the Ethiopian prison facility.
He died on Sunday night at the facility.
His death comes a few days after the media reported about his deteriorating health condition.

“Several inmates in the facility have fallen ill due to malnourishment. We’re fed once a day with white rice, without sauce, all year round,” one of the inmates told SaharaReporters last week.
“One of our Nigerian brothers, Basil Lawrence Ilobi is still down with a stroke, yet no treatment.”
In a conversation with the media on Monday, the source confirmed Lawrence’s death, alleging it was due to abandonment by the prison officials.
“Basil Lawrence Ilobi, our Nigerian brother who you reported was sick last week is dead. He died in the Ethiopian prison on Sunday, January 25,” the source said.
“He died as a result of untreated HBP (high blood pressure) which he developed in prison. The high blood pressure degenerated into a stroke. No food, no medicine, no treatment. He was the third Nigerian to die in this Ethiopian prison in two years. Our government should please come to our rescue.”
In 2023, two Nigerians, Chizoba Eze and Uchenna Nwanneneme, died in Kaliti Prison following alleged physical aggression and poor medication.
