In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the gospel music singer claimed her former manager threatened her and circulated false information about her child’s paternity.
Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has alleged that her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee, made life unbearable for her, forcing her to flee Lagos.
In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the gospel music singer claimed her former manager threatened her and circulated false information about her child’s paternity.
She said, “A man claimed I sued him, came online and made videos to tarnish my image.
“He looked at me and said, ‘I made you who you are and I will destroy you.’ I became scared of my life and it got to a point where I had to move from Lagos to Port Harcourt because this man made the environment toxic for me.”
Chinwo accused him of sponsoring fake news against her son, alleging it was due to his hatred for Pastor Nathaniel Bassey.
“One of my major crimes was when I did a song with Pastor Nathaniel Bassey.
“Because this man hates Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, you went as far as sponsoring fake news about an innocent child, my son,” she added.
She alleged that he exploited her career, withheld her royalties for two years, and attempted to force her into a 12-year contract.
“We signed a backup contract in 2017.
“As we progressed, he tried to convince me to sign a 12-year contract, which I said no to. Since then, you started acting funny, always toxic because I didn’t extend the contract,” Chinwo stated.
Addressing claims that she sued him, Chinwo clarified, “He took me to court and came online to make public that I took him to court.
“Here are the documents, you took me and Minister JudiKay to court and you’re here playing the victim game.”
The gospel singer expressed the emotional toll the ordeal has taken, saying, “I am overwhelmed with sadness every single day, and I cannot even explain it all. This burden is too heavy for me to bear.”
In April 2024, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey requested the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute individuals spreading false allegations about Chinwo’s child.
Last Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had withdrawn the arrest warrant issued against Mercy Chinwo’s former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu.
Ezekiel is accused of involvement in a $345,000 fraud. An order was previously issued for the immediate arrest of Ezekiel.
The order was issued on January 16, 2025, by Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, following an ex parte brought by the EFCC seeking his arrest.
The counsel representing the EFCC, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari informed the court of an application brought before it by the anti-graft agency and subsequently moved the application seeking the arrest of the musician’s manager.
Mrs. Buhari revealed that after several unsuccessful attempts to apprehend Onyedikachukwu, the arrest warrant would enable the EFCC to detain him to address allegations of diverting $345,000 in royalties earned from Mercy Chinwo’s musical works.
She stated that Mercy Chinwo’s manager had been collecting royalties from digital platforms and events without informing the singer.
It was further alleged that Ezekiel misappropriated $345,000, withholding the gospel singer’s rightful share.
However, the EFCC lawyer, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, requested the withdrawal of the arrest warrant.
She explained that Ezekiel’s legal counsel, Monday Ubani (SAN) had already been served the charges, making the warrant unnecessary.
Justice Owoeye approved the withdrawal of the bench warrant following the submission.
