Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated dozens of terrorists, including high-profile kingpins, in a series of intense military offensives in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The operation, conducted between February 1 and 10, targeted and dismantled more than 40 terrorist hideouts across Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Zamfara State and Isa LGA in Sokoto State.

According to Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, the offensive weakened terrorist networks and restored a sense of security to affected communities.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi made this known in a statement on Wednesday.
Abdullahi said, “The operations also led to the seizure of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, preventing further attacks on innocent civilians. In addition, troops rescued dozens of kidnapped victims, providing relief to families that had been living in fear.”
The military called on the public to provide intelligence on fleeing terrorists, including the notorious Bello Turji and his associates, assuring that all information will be handled with strict confidentiality.
Meanwhile, at a separate event in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Garba Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), emphasised that violent extremism remains one of Nigeria’s most complex security threats.
Speaking at the opening of a workshop on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), he reiterated the federal government’s commitment to implementing a whole-of-society approach in tackling radicalisation.
He said, “A policy’s effectiveness lies in its implementation, which is why we are here today—to take deliberate and strategic steps toward localizing and operationalizing this framework.
“Over the next two days, our focus will be on adapting and integrating the PF-NAP for PCVE at various levels of governance.
“This will involve exploring strategies to embed PCVE principles into the operational frameworks of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as at state and local government levels.
“We will also assess existing gaps, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen and institutionalize PCVE efforts across different sectors.
“As part of this process, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the draft PCVE Guidelines to ensure they align with national priorities, security realities, and international best practices.”
“Additionally, we will validate the draft Strategic Communication Plan, recognizing that effective messaging is essential in countering extremist narratives and fostering meaningful community engagement,” he added.
