At least five members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have been killed, and three others are missing following a violent attack at the Kogi-Enugu boundary on Thursday, March 14, 2025.
Vanguard reports that MACBAN’s National Deputy Director General, Gidado Siddiki, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, alleging that it took place in Enugu State.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command clarified that the attack actually occurred along the Kogi-Enugu boundary, specifically at Eshi River, a border point between the Opanda community in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Enugu State, and the Amaeke community in Igalamela-Odolu LGA, Kogi State.

He added that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with Kogi State authorities, to track down other fleeing suspects.
Siddiki revealed that eight MACBAN members were initially reported missing after the attack. While the bodies of five victims have been recovered, the whereabouts of the remaining three are still unknown.
MACBAN members are law-abiding citizens engaged in the legitimate business of cattle rearing and selling in the South East, Siddiki stated. He emphasized that their presence is for regional progress, just as the Igbo community contributes to development in the North.
He called on the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the killings, identify those responsible, and ensure justice is served. Additionally, he urged authorities to implement measures to prevent further attacks on MACBAN members.
Expressing deep condolences to the families of the deceased and missing individuals, MACBAN prayed for Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest and give their loved ones the strength to endure the loss.
Siddiki also advised MACBAN members to remain calm and law-abiding, reminding them that, as Muslims, they believe in divine destiny.
“We must be patient and allow the government to conclude its investigation. Reports indicate that some suspects have already been apprehended, and we trust that justice will prevail,” he added.
