In a controversial move that has drawn public attention, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, has summoned the suspended Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, and his Deputy, Dr. Ngozi Ordu, to appear before him for an inquiry.

The session, scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, aims to probe political appointments made under the Fubara-led administration over the past two years.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, the former governor is required to provide all documents and justifications for appointments made during his tenure.

This process forms part of the Sole Administrator’s ongoing efforts to restore transparency, accountability, and lasting peace in the governance of Rivers State,” the statement read.

The summons has stirred debate across political circles, with many questioning the legitimacy and implications of a quasi-military figure subjecting a democratically elected governor to such scrutiny.

Political observers say the development is unprecedented and may further inflame tensions in the already volatile Rivers political landscape.

“Fubara is expected to provide a clear and detailed explanation as to why he believes he should be reinstated,” the statement added.

Both Sir Fubara and Dr. Ordu are mandated to appear in person at the inquiry.

The situation continues to raise questions about the state of democracy in Rivers State and whether due process is being followed in the ongoing political tussle.
