The Lagos State Judiciary was thrown into mourning on Monday following the sudden death of Justice Abdulganiyu Safari, the presiding judge of the Epe Division of the Lagos State High Court.

Mourners gathered at his residence on Alhaja Busola Street near Singer Bus Stop in Sango/Ota, Ogun State, to pay their last respects.
Following his death, several courtrooms across the state suspended proceedings on Monday as judges and legal practitioners paused to honor his memory.
While some sittings are expected to resume by Tuesday, others may remain closed until midweek as the judiciary continues to grieve the loss of the judge.
In an official statement, M.O. Ayida, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, expressed the collective condolences of the legal community in the state and beyond.
Ayida stated, “With utmost submission to the unquestionable will of Almighty God, the Lagos State Judiciary announces the death of one of our choicest judges and former Chief Registrar, Hon. Justice Ganiyu Safari, who departed in the early hours of today.”
Further tributes came from Mrs. Ololade Ige, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, and Mrs. Grace Alo, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Justice.
Both described Justice Safari as a paragon of judicial excellence and a man of exceptional humility and integrity.
Appointed to the Lagos bench on May 28, 2013, by former Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Justice Safari earned widespread respect for his humility, legal expertise, and unwavering dedication to justice.
Before his elevation to the bench, he served as the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary.
