The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 40 suspected internet fraudsters in a major raid conducted across Bida and Minna local government areas of Niger State.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Commission’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate, followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of cybercrime.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the EFCC disclosed that the arrests were made after weeks of surveillance and undercover investigations, aimed at disrupting fraudulent internet activities in the region.
According to the anti-graft agency, several incriminating items were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
These included three vehicles, eight power-generating sets, a Hisense air conditioner, two power stabilisers, 10 motorcycles, eight laptops, four Bluetooth speakers, and 60 Android phones.
Meanwhile, EFCC also revealed the recovery of fetish items believed to be used for spiritual fortification or ritual purposes. These items included three calabashes adorned with feathers, traditionally made soap and sponge, a bottle of hot drink, 20 cowries, a waist bead, and four women’s underwear.
The commission added that the suspects would be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
