In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police emphasised that the behaviour captured in the video does not reflect the ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force,” ACP Adejobi said.
“The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence.”
According to the statement, the officers involved have been identified and have already been subjected to disciplinary procedures to ensure accountability and reinforce ethical conduct in the force.
The police also used the opportunity to warn individuals and corporate organisations that engage police personnel for escort or specialised services.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of Police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi added.
The Force reassured the public of its commitment to upholding professionalism and discipline among its personnel.
“We remain committed to purging the Force of unprofessional elements whose actions negate our mission to serve with integrity,” Adejobi added.
Meanwhile, the media on Wednesday revealed that a police wireless message it obtained had shed light on a controversial viral video showing Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers deployed to a Chinese mining company in Sagamu, Ogun State, receiving cash from foreign nationals.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, drew public criticism and raised concerns about bribery, favouritism, and the ethical conduct of security personnel in Nigeria.
However, the police earlier defended the officers, insisting the money was a form of appreciation from the company’s owner and not a bribe.
The internal police communication revealed that the incident involved officers attached to AKK – Frontier Risk Management Nigeria Limited, a company reportedly operating at an approved mining site in Sagamu.
It was also reported that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had ordered the Provost of 1 Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) in Kaduna and DSP Aliyu Adejembi, along with his team, to appear for questioning following the circulation of a video showing them lined up to receive cash handouts from Chinese businesspeople.
It was gathered that the officers from MOPOL 1 were in Lagos on special duty with the Chinese nationals when the incident occurred.
