The suspension was officially confirmed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua.
The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the traditional ruler of Uwano Kingdom, George Oshiapi Egabor, over the surge in kidnapping and killings within his jurisdiction.
The suspended monarch, who presides over the Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state, was suspended after authorities linked elements within the palace to recent violent incidents in the community.
The suspension was officially confirmed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua.
According to the statement, the action was taken in light of a disturbing security development involving the arrest of Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, the monarch’s secretary.
The statement noted that Omiogbemhi was arrested by security agencies in connection with the murder of a Palace Chief, John Ikhamate.
The statement read, “Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate suspension of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State, over recent cases of incessant kidnapping and killings in his domain.
“Already, his secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, has since been arrested by the relevant authorities, following a recent incident that led to the death of a Palace Chief, Late John Ikhamate. The suspension of the traditional ruler is indefinite.”
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the state government has pledged full cooperation with security agencies to bring all perpetrators to justice.
