A young man has reportedly narrowly escaped abduction and possible organ harvesting by criminals who posed as police officers in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to a firsthand account shared by his family member on X, the victim was on a Bolt ride within Port-Harcourt when the vehicle was intercepted by armed men in plain clothes driving a Toyota Sienna.
Claiming to be law enforcement officers, they forcibly pulled the man from the ride, assaulted him with the butt of a rifle, and tied his hands before throwing him into their vehicle.
The Bolt driver reportedly followed behind in an attempt to raise the alarm, but the assailants shot at his tyres in a bid to stop him.
Inside the abductors’ vehicle, the victim endured repeated slaps while his phone was confiscated and searched. The attackers reportedly reviewed his photo gallery, where they found images of a recent surgical operation.
According to the statement, the victim explained to his captors that he had undergone surgery related to a long-standing kidney condition, which he has been managing for seven years.
“Upon hearing this, the abductors allegedly exchanged glances and abruptly stopped the vehicle. After a brief discussion, they made the chilling decision to release him — seemingly because his organs were deemed unsuitable.
“Before letting him go, the attackers withdrew N80,000 from his account using his ATM card, returned his phone, and handed him N3,000. They instructed him to call his Bolt driver to come pick him up.”
The family member, recounting the harrowing event, emphasised how close the situation came to becoming a tragedy and warned that anyone could fall victim to such crimes.
“This is a wake-up call,” the relative wrote. “Don’t ever think it can’t be you. This has hit very close to home. We thank God my brother is safe and sound.”
