The Nigerian Senate has inaugurated an 18-member committee to provide oversight on the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.).
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, was named chairman of the committee, which was announced on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the resumption of plenary.
Akpabio emphasised the significance of the committee’s mandate, describing it as “critical” to ensuring robust legislative oversight and protecting democratic processes in Rivers State.
He also noted that the committee’s composition may be reviewed after further consultations.
Members of the committee are Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed, with the Clerk of the Senate also serving on the committee.
Charging the committee to begin work immediately, Akpabio stated the urgency of their assignment and reaffirmed the Senate’s dedication to ensuring good governance and accountability in Rivers State.
