American R&B singer, Chris Brown, has reportedly been arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following an alleged bottle attack on a music producer at a London nightclub way back in February 2023.
The 36-year-old artist was detained at approximately 2am on Thursday outside the five-star Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, hours after arriving in the city by private jet.
According to The Economic Times, the arrest stems from an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, where Brown allegedly assaulted producer Mr. Diaw during a night out with his entourage.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, stating, “He has been taken into custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on Feb. 19, 2023.
“The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
Mr. Diaw has accused the Grammy Award-winning artist of launching an unprovoked attack at around 3am, during the nightclub encounter.
The music producer who reportedly spoke to The Sun on Sunday said, “He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well.”
Diaw also alleges that after being struck with a tequila bottle, Brown proceeded to punch and kick him while he lay on the ground.
Following the alleged assault, Diaw was hospitalized and required the use of crutches upon discharge.
He has since filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking $16million (£12million) in damages for the injuries and financial losses he claims to have suffered.
Brown, best known for hits like “Run It!” and “No Guidance,” is currently in the midst of his global Breezy Bowl XX Tour, a celebration of his 20-year music career.
The tour, which follows the massive success of his 2024 concert series promoting the album 11:11, which grossed over $82million and drew more than 446,000 attendees, is scheduled to include ten more shows across the UK next month.
Key stops on the UK leg of the tour include two performances at Manchester’s Co-Op Live stadium, a show at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, and a major event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Additional dates are planned in Birmingham, Glasgow, and Dublin.
However, the ongoing police investigation could place the remainder of the tour in jeopardy.
Brown, a two-time Grammy winner with a history of high-profile collaborations and controversies, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the arrest or the allegations.
His legal team has not responded to requests for comment as of Thursday morning.
