Police operatives in Ekiti State have arrested Abiodun Eniola for allegedly stealing a brand-new motorcycle from a dealership under the guise of a test ride.
According to the Ekiti State Police Command, the suspect visited a motorcycle dealer’s shop in Iworoko Ekiti, pretending to be a genuine buyer.
Meanwhile, after negotiating with the dealer, he requested a test ride — a request granted.
However, the suspect never returned, instead vanishing with the unregistered motorcycle.
However, his luck ran out on May 10, 2025, when officers from the Safer Highway Unit of the state command intercepted him during a routine stop-and-search operation.
He was caught in possession of the stolen motorcycle.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would be charged in court.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect went to the shop of a motorcycle dealer at Iworoko Ekiti, pretended to be a real buyer, negotiated and requested that he test the motorcycle before buying,” Abutu stated.
“He confessed during investigations that he wanted to steal the motorcycle rather than buy it.”
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state, urging dealers and the public to remain vigilant.
