The ill-fated vehicle was travelling from Lagos to Kano with 36 male passengers when it crashed at Essa community around 3 a.m.
At least seven people have lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries after a truck conveying federal government grains crashed in the early hours of Sunday, May 18, along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
The ill-fated vehicle was travelling from Lagos to Kano with 36 male passengers when it crashed at Essa community around 3 a.m.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), “The accident was caused by the bad portions of the road yet to be reconstructed along the Lambata-Bida axis.”
NSEMA confirmed that 11 of the injured victims sustained serious injuries, while five others had minor wounds.
Some of the injured passengers were taken to health centres in Badeggi and Agaie, while fellow travellers reportedly conveyed others.
NSEMA further noted, “Most of the deceased victims were taken away from the scene by their relatives.”
Search and rescue efforts were carried out by NSEMA officials with the assistance of local villagers and commuters present at the time of the crash.
