Atiku, in a video posted on his official X account on Friday, arrived at the residence of Aregbesola in Osun, alongside another former Vice President, Namadi Sambo.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has met with former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, as the talk of coalition continued to be focal point of key discussions.
Atiku, in a video posted on his official X account on Friday, arrived at the residence of Aregbesola in Osun, alongside another former Vice President, Namadi Sambo.
“Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola,” Atiku captioned the video.
Aregbesola’s team was seen in the video chanting “Tinubu will fall in 2027” in the Yoruba dialect as Atiku and Sambo paid a courtesy visit to the former Minister of Interior at his country home in Ilesa, Osun State.
Seen in the video warmly receiving the entourage of Atiku and Sambo alongside Aregbesola were prominent Osun political figures, including the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Lowo Adebiyi, and Chairman of Omoluabi Progressives, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had reportedly offered Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the vice-presidential slot in a proposed single-term coalition ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The offer was reportedly made during a private meeting between Atiku and Obi in the United Kingdom earlier this year.
Atiku is said to have assured Obi that he would serve only one term and hand over power afterward.
“Atiku and Obi met earlier this year in the UK. That was where Atiku first mooted the idea of a coalition and urged Obi to be his running mate. Obi then asked for time to think it over and consult his loyalists,” one source revealed.
Another insider confirmed, “But recent developments show that Obi has accepted to be Atiku’s running mate, and Atiku has also agreed to serve a single four-year term and hand over to the former Anambra State governor.”
Earlier, Atiku confirmed that he, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, and the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, have kick-started a movement aimed at defeating Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Aregbesola who Atiku visited most recently in Osun State, has been at loggerheads with the APC, fueling possibility of joining the Atiku led coalition.
